I have worked in television for ten years and when my career eventually brought me to KIXE it was a full circle moment in my life. I grew up watching Reading Rainbow, Square One and, of course, Sesame Street. I was even a member of the KIXE Kids Club.
Just as those programs helped shape the person I would become the shows I watch and produce today on KIXE as an adult inform my sensibilities.
It is vitally important that an area such as the North State have a television channel like KIXE. Somewhere that not only has the beautiful dramas on Masterpiece but will also take the time to have local experts answering viewer calls on important issues like health care costs and Medicare. We are the ones devoting an hour to honor our local veterans and broadcasting 60 singing Girl Scouts at Christmas. In today’s fractured media world where everyone is watching shows on their DVR or tablets it is essential that a non-commercial station like KIXE continues to be available over-the-air for everyone regardless of their income level or social standing. Who knows what child is watching and how their life will be transformed by the programming.
But alas, as the saying goes, ‘You don’t have to take my word for it!’
